In this article, we will talk about the reasons why you should consider the DIY garage doors option. This is of course the option of buying a garage door as “supply only” and install it yourself or get your own installer to install.
Many of you are thinking:
– “Why should I go with a SUPPLY ONLY option?”
– “Is it worth it?”
– “Will it save much money?”
– “What if I get it wrong?”
First of all, can we say that the “supply only” option is not for everyone. It only works out well if you can do the following:
Number 1. Take basic measurements
You will need to measure the garage daylight opening height and width and send them to us, we will do the rest. If you are unsure on how to take measurements, it’s best to go for full supply & install option where someone is able to come out to do an onsite measure & quote
Number 2. Know what type of door works for your garage.
If you have a straightforward garage, it’s easy to choose a garage door type. But if your garage has limited clearance, you will need to understand head room, side room, and how each door type works. We can definitely explain all this in details, but if you feel that you will not be able to understand, best to go for “supply & install” package.
Number 3. Further to the above point, if your garage is not straightforward or if you don’t have enough sideroom, we can recommend ways to “create sideroom or headroom”. If you are able to understand these numbers to work out final sizes, If this all sounds too hard, this option might not be suitable for you. Feel free to send through photos and we’ll let you know if your garage does not have standard clearance.
Number 4. Can you install or can you find an installer?
It’s worth planning ahead and work out whether you will be installing the door or how much will it cost to hire an installer. We have installers that we can refer to you or you can find your own. Either way, it’s good to know the total cost before buying the product.
Number 5. Delivery or pick up of doors.
Do you have a suitable vehicle to pick up the doors? If you don’t, you might need to consider extra delivery costs or hiring a courier to pick up.
As long as you feel that you can handle the above, here are the rewards of going with the “supply only option”.
Number 1. Significant saving in cost.
Especially if you can pick up and install the door by yourself, you’ll be saving on average of $800 to $1000 for a standard single roller door with motor. This is an estimation only and it does not apply to all door sizes and all cases. But overall, you will definitely save money since you’re taking measurements yourself and picking up doors yourself.
Number 2. Learning new skills.
If you’re already in a similar business, it’s definitely worth learning new skills and perhaps expand your business to include garage doors as well.
.Once you have successfully installed a garage door, you will be confident to offer this service to your Customers as well. This has been the case for many of our Customers.
Number 3. Further to point 2, If you’re installing for your own property, you will also be acquiring skills and experience to do the same for family & friends in the future and save them significant costs. Or you can now maintain or service your own garage door for years to come! We had Customers who bought a DYI garage door from us, then did it for their parents then their neighbour and they were extremely happy about it.
We hope this article helped you to decide whether the SUPPLY ONLY option is right for you.
